Course Description
This two-day course is geared to engineers and technicians involved in assessing the performance and/or reliability of reciprocating compressors. Participants are equipped to identify actual performance, expected performance and to resolve differences. Important reliability factors, including rod loading, pulsation and vibration, are covered. The course involves case studies in which attendees actively engage in resolving problems.

Upon completing this course, participants will have: a thorough understanding of performance measures including capacity, power, efficiency, rod loading; the ability to address differences between expected and actual performance; and the proficiency to accurately predict performance of a compressor under new operating scenarios. Also improved ability to perform troubleshooting and failure analysis on reciprocating compressors.

A complete set of course materials and lunches are included.

Instructor

Mr. Nils Joergensen has 19 years of vibration, dynamics, performance, and troubleshooting experience in oil and gas, power generation, and marine and heavy equipment industries. This includes experience on and offshore, at installations around the world including USA, Canada, China, Malaysia, Europe, Africa, and Middle East. He is knowledgeable about vibration and performance issues on compressors, pumps, pipelines, small bore piping, motors, turbines and fans, and structural issues on skids and foundations in all manner of production facilities. Nils is an expert in performance analysis, vibration analysis, and field troubleshooting. In his current role, he is responsible for the technical quality of the field engineering departments in Calgary and Houston, provides engineering leadership on complex projects, and provides supervision and training of new or staff engineers, technologists, and technicians.

Dr. Bryan Long, Principal Consultant at Wood Group's vibration, dynamics and noise service line (formerly BETA Machinery Analysis), has over 40 years of direct experience in performance analysis of rotating machines. During his tenure as President of Beta Monitors and Controls, Bryan pioneered the development of performance analyzers, now commonly used throughout the compression industry. He developed the first digital acoustical analysis of reciprocating compressors, the first portable vibration monitor that "talked" to a computer, and the first portable reciprocating compressor monitor. Bryan has extensive field experience and expertise in root cause analysis, performance monitoring and testing, including assessment of mechanical condition, performance, and reliability of all kinds of industrial machinery.
